The Our Market Story Cart is a multimedia cart inspired by the 9th Street Market’s original push carts. The cart is a tool to collect stories along different sites in the Market, from butcher shops to produce stands. The cart includes a screen with audio to share community stories, a map of the Market, and equipment to collect video and audio of Market stories.
We invite the community to share their Market story by visiting the Our Market Story Cart on select dates in the Market. The stories will be added to our growing Our Market open-source digital archive created to expand the narrative of all the people that contribute to the 9th Street Market, one of the oldest outdoor markets in the United States.
Past Events
Here is a recap of the “OUR MARKET, OUR STORIES” celebration of community and resilience in the 9th Street Market. Presented by the Our Market Project, this event was part of Mural Arts Month showcasing the vibrant public art project created and led by local artist Michelle Angela Ortiz’s Fiera Studios in partnership with Mural Arts Philadelphia.
Held on Saturday, October 26, 2024, the event featured new murals, new lightboxes, and the launch of the interactive tour app created through Our Market, along with participation from vendors and performances that highlight the ongoing work and culture of the market.
